Carl Krim is a South African sculptor and designer based in Hermanus, known for his finely detailed, handcrafted miniature sculptures that capture the quiet spirit of African life and wildlife.Working from his small studio overlooking the coast, Carl creates each original piece by hand, using a blend of traditional sculpting methods and modern casting techniques. His focus is on creating collectible keepsakes — art that’s small enough to travel with, yet personal and lasting enough to be treasured for years.
Each sculpture is individually cast, hand-painted, and boxed with care, reflecting Carl’s belief that art should be accessible, meaningful, and rooted in honesty. His Baby African Wildlife Collection — a set of five miniature sculptures — has become known for its craftsmanship, charm, and authenticity.
Carl’s background in programming, design, and product development has shaped his practical, problem-solving approach to artmaking. What began as a small experiment in moulding and materials has grown into a quiet passion for sculpting pieces that carry a sense of place, memory, and heart.
He continues to work from Hermanus, producing limited runs of his sculptures for local galleries, guesthouses, and travellers seeking something uniquely South African.

Co-Founder & Multi-Disciplinary Crafter
Carolyn is the co-founder of Simply Awesome and a versatile crafter whose work is a staple of the local creative scene. With a deep-rooted passion for tactile arts, she moves fluidly between disciplines—from the intricate, rhythmic world of crochet to the detailed assembly of diverse craft projects.
Her work is defined by a love for texture, color, and the meditative process of making things by hand. For Carolyn, crafting is about more than just the finished object; it’s about the connection between the maker and the material. This hands-on philosophy is what drives the spirit of Simply Awesome, ensuring that every one of her creations carries a sense of authentic, human touch.
A familiar face in the Overberg art community, Carolyn presents her latest collections at the Hermanus Art Market on a monthly basis. These markets serve as her favorite point of connection, where she can share her passion directly with fellow locals and visitors alike. Whether she’s working with yarn, stone, or clay, Carolyn’s goal remains the same: to create pieces that bring a sense of warmth and character into the homes of those who appreciate true craft.
